About
I have been working in data engineering and software architecture for over twenty years, mostly in financial services, banking, and media. These days I spend a lot of my time on Change Data Capture pipelines, Debezium, Kafka, and event-driven systems. Currently I work as a Software Architect for Data and Analytics at IFS, where I build exactly this kind of infrastructure in production.
This site grew out of notes I was keeping anyway. When I kept running into the same questions about Debezium Oracle configuration, LogMiner tuning, SCN recovery, and XStream vs LogMiner tradeoffs, I figured I might as well write them up properly and make them available. The interactive tools came later, when I realized a decision matrix or config generator is more useful than a wall of text.
I have also written five technical books on Python data engineering, SQL, and prompt engineering, and I run pythondataengineering.net, a curated resource directory for data engineers.
What this site covers
The research here focuses on the parts of CDC that are genuinely hard: Oracle LogMiner and XStream internals, Debezium performance tuning, concurrency and scaling patterns, event-driven architecture decisions, and the operational details that are hard to find in official documentation. Most of it comes from working through these problems in real systems.
